Special Guest Speaker

Pete Koe

  • The 2004 Shootout: On August 18, 2004, Officer Koe responded to a call where several fellow officers had been shot by a gunman. Despite being shot in the leg and suffering facial injuries from flying glass, Koe engaged the gunman at close range. He fired the fatal shots that neutralized the suspect, Kenneth Anderson, who had already killed Officer Timothy "Jake" Laird.
  • SWAT Leadership: Koe has served as a SWAT team leader and trainer. He was an early pioneer in the department for non-lethal technology, being the first officer trained in the state to deploy stun guns in 1999.
  • De-escalation Success: In 2016, Koe utilized his "non-lethal specialist" skills to resolve a high-stakes standoff on the city's east side. He successfully took down a knife-wielding man holding a toddler without firing a shot, using a stun gun to safely rescue the child.
